After a knee replacement, hip replacement, fracture or spine surgery, the right exercises at the right time make recovery safer and smoother. Ashok Healthcare's physiotherapists provide orthopaedic rehabilitation at home in Bangalore, following your surgeon's protocol from the first days after discharge.
Orthopaedic rehabilitation at home is physiotherapy given at the patient's home after bone, joint or spine surgery or injury. It aims to reduce stiffness, rebuild strength and restore safe walking and daily activities, following the surgeon's guidelines on what movement and weight-bearing are allowed. It is commonly used after knee and hip replacement, fracture surgery and spine surgery.
In the first weeks after orthopaedic surgery, travelling to a clinic can be painful and tiring. Cars, steps and waiting rooms all become obstacles. Home physiotherapy removes those barriers and lets the therapist prepare the patient for the real challenges at home: getting into bed, using the toilet, managing stairs and walking safely inside the house.
Every surgeon has a protocol, with limits on bending, weight-bearing and certain movements. Our physiotherapists follow the written discharge instructions and adjust the programme only as the surgeon allows.
In the first week at home, the focus is usually on reducing swelling, gentle knee-bending and straightening exercises, tightening the thigh muscles and walking short distances with a walker. The physiotherapist also teaches safe ways to get in and out of bed and use the toilet. Your surgeon's protocol decides the exact exercises and how quickly you progress.
If the patient also needs wound care or injections after surgery, see post-operative care at home for nursing support.
We provide home orthopaedic rehabilitation in Yeshwanthpur, Malleshwaram, Rajajinagar, Mathikere, Hebbal, Peenya, Jalahalli and other parts of North and West Bangalore, depending on therapist availability.
It usually begins in hospital, often within a day of surgery, and continues at home after discharge. Follow your surgeon's advice on timing.
It varies. Many patients need several weeks of supervised exercise, followed by a home programme. Your progress and your surgeon's advice decide the duration.
For many patients, yes, especially in the early weeks. Some may later benefit from clinic sessions with additional equipment.
Stair practice usually starts once you can walk safely with an aid, often in the early days, under the physiotherapist's supervision. Your surgeon's protocol applies.
Our physiotherapists can help with transfers, walking and balance as allowed by the surgeon. Recovery depends on her health and the type of surgery, so we will set realistic goals together.
Most patients use a walker for the first weeks after joint replacement. We can advise on what is needed and supply it.
Wound care is done by a nurse. We can arrange post-operative nursing alongside physiotherapy.
